The Time Value of Carbon: Getting to Zero by 2050
TRACK: Net Positive Products + Enterprise

The Paris climate accord set ambitious targets requiring a rapid reduction in carbon emissions. The current carbon reduction strategy for buildings focuses on new, zero net energy buildings. Two other sources of emissions may be even more important to address in the near term:
  • Embodied emissions from building materials, products and construction processes
  • Operating emissions from existing buildings

This session will look at embodied carbon emissions in relationship to total building emissions and show designers and builders how to use tools to estimate embodied carbon and make materials choices that will reduce embodied carbon in their buildings.
